Programme details

Tutor: Manjai Chan 

Freelance actor, emcee, bride chaperone, drama and dance tutor. Graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) Degree in Drama, major in Acting for Drama. He was the intern actor at the Drama Gallery under the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC)’s 4th Artistic Internship Scheme in 2015-16. He completed the Certificate in Banquet Planning, several Emcee courses and a  Professional Bride Chaperone course. He also obtained the HK Ballroom Dancing Council –Student Teacher Certificate of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority. He was awarded the Champion of the HK Open Dance Championships in Latin dance and has participated in several Latin Dance performances.

Recent performances include Double Happiness: The Promise of Red for Westkowloon Freespace Dance; Secret of the Mystical Diary for Jam Island Theatre; Why is Santa Claus Missing? , A Christmas Carol and See U Again Little Prince Re-Run for Hong Kong Theatre Works;  Miu Miu’s Secret Planet for Producer Works Theatre; See You Soon for Project Roundabout; Zen Master PuiTo in Tuen Mun Touring Performances, There’s Nothing Wrong With Me and Harry’s Good Neighbour Goes to Ma On Shan for Drama Gallery. 

Emcees jobs include Summer Vibes-Youth Band Marathon and International Children and Youth Film Carnival for LCSD, opening ceremonies of The House of Hong Kong Literature for two consecutive years, South Australia Wind Band Broadcasting and Kiehl’s Picnic Fun Day for Ocean Park;  Dine Out the Darkness for Orbis for two consecutive years, as well as wedding ceremonies. He also served as a traffic news reporter for the Hong Kong Commercial Broadcasting Corporation Limited. 

Get a taste of what it’s like to be a professional actor. From reading, and analysing the script to rehearsing and performing on stage. You will be equipped with  basic acting techniques, and have a chance to perform on a professional stage.

Have you ever been curious about the scene changes, the lighting effects and the props used by the actors? Who made the choice of music in a scene? Don’t miss the chance to learn from these working professionals. 

Tutor: Fung Shu Ying 

Freelance Stage Manager. Shu Ying has acted as the stage manager for numerous performing arts groups including Hong Kong Arts Festival, Yam Pak Charitable Foundations, Chorfungming Opera Troupe, The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection, Theatre Space, Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies, Drama Gallery, Jazz In The Neighbourhood, Musicus Fest, etc. In recent years, she has been a stage management tutor for secondary schools and the technical coordinator of several outdoor events presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Tutor: Lee Ma Tai 

A freelance stage professional. Lee Ma Tai obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Sound Design and Music Recording at the HKAPA. He has received scholarships for internships and academic exchanges in Canada and Singapore respectively.

He won the Best Sound Design Award (2005 – 2006) with The Trojan Women. His work Hamlet for HKAPA was shortlisted for the 16th Hong Kong Drama Awards (Best Sound Design). 

His recent works include A Journey of CAR’s Life and Incredible Story @ 3 Little Pigs for Jumbo Kids Theatre; A Foxy Tale for WanChai Theatre; Into the Woods for Theatre Space; The Mental Failure of the Orphan King for Shu Ning Presentation Unit; Bom Bom’s Four Seasons for Trinity Theatre etc. He has worked with different arts organisations in sound design and sound control for different kinds of performances.

Tutor: Zoe Cheung & Ruby Chu  

Zoe Cheung 

Graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, major in Theatre Lighting Design. 

Recent collaborative units include Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Hong Kong Chinese Opera, Zuni Icosahedron, Tsang Man Tung Theatre Work, Theatre Ronin, Tang Shu-Wing Theatre Studio and Hong Kong Dance Exchange, etc. She also worked with local arts groups as a lighting designer in the Avignon Off Festival, Teatr Tanca Zawirowania Dance Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Yokohama Dance Collection, Adelaide Fringe Festival, etc. 

Aside from theatre, she has been painting mandalas since 2011. She presented exhibitions of mandala paintings in 2012 and 2022, and published an illustration book Travelling Mandalas in 2018. 

 

Ruby Chu

Graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours), major in Stage Lighting Design. During study, she was awarded the Martin Professional (HK) Limited Scholarships and The Hongkong Bank Foundation Scholarships. She works in lighting design and lighting programming and has worked as an architectural lighting design consultant. 

Her current productions include It’s Not True, Astronauts and Rehearsal for Little Theatre Workshop; PEER GYNT for Theatre Horizon’s New Directors’ Movement; The Isle for Poor Guy Diary; HK x Brussels Multi-Arts Encounter, Histoire D’amour and Love and Information for On & On Theatre Workshop; Genesis—Mending Heaven for Shanghai Puppet Theatre; Cost of Living and Xiaojing Hutong for Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies and Buried Child for Hong Kong Repertory Theatre. 

Tutor: Issac Wong 

A freelance stage designer. Isaac Wong Tsz Chun graduated from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (First Class Honors), major in stage design.

His recent set design projects include On Golden Pond, Go Back For Murder, Appointment with Death, Nunsensations!, 8 Femmes, Nunsense for Theatre Space; The Finale of Mr. AD, In Times of Turmoil, Wolf in the House, Crumbled, Secret of the 8 1/2 Floor and Last Supper for Hong Kong Repertory Theatre; Good Old Days, The Poetry Journey Of Ton and Jeanne d’ Arc for Theatre Dojo; Birthday Party and The Cans for Artocrite Theatre; Om Encounter and Our Immortal Cantata for Yat Po Singers; Lion Rock for Augustine drama; The Last Piece of Gold of Miss Pang, The Comedy of Terrors! and Laundromat for Windmill Grass Theatre; Our Journal of Springtime and Fly Bao To The Moon The Musical for Boom Theatre; Norma, The Merry Widow, Madama Butterfly, La boheme for Musica Viva; The Pitmen Painters and Cost of Living for Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies; The Amazing Filmphony for Hong Kong Sinfonietta;  Ji for Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra; Lychee and Hero and Try To Be Funny for BHT Theatre; WILD the musical for City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong; The Book of Magic for 7A Drama Group; The Only King for The Only Stage; Hua Mulan for The Theatre Wonderland. 

He also worked as an art director for Class 4B for Hong Kong Television.
