In 1809, Cheung Po Tsai’s infamous Red Flag Fleet, while under repair at Shalowan Bay, was set upon by a flotilla of Portuguese & Qing dynasty war-ships. Join maritime expert, Dr Stephen Davies, in re-enacting this renowned sea battle between the Red Flag Fleet and Portuguese navy in an exciting interactive board game!

Stephen Davies has been in Hong Kong on and off since 1947. He served in the British Royal Navy and Royal Marines, taught at HKU 1974-89 and from 1990, with his partner Elaine Morgan, spent 15 years sailing 50,000 miles in an 11.8m yacht, working as yachting journalists and sailing guide book writers. In 2005 he returned to full time work, opening and running the new Hong Kong Maritime Museum in Stanley and finding it a new home in Pier 8, Central Ferry Piers. He returned to HKU in 2013 where he teaches the sustainable use of heritage buildings and researches Hong Kong’s maritime past, with a focus on navigation and charting, ships and seafarers.
