The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC)
AFTEC is a charity and a bilingual theatre in Hong Kong with local and overseas partners. In the seven years as the LCSD’s Venue Partner at the Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre, AFTEC has produced theatre productions and Learning & Participation programmes that are innovative and unusual. In its 2015-16 season, AFTEC is offering one suitable theatre director resident in Hong Kong the fantastic opportunity to work with us and the internationally-renowned London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) in London.
After a 3-phase training programme including a 5-week internship at LAMDA, the successful candidate will return to run workshops and direct one theatre production in 2016 with young actors under 25.
Eligibility:
Male or female aged 45 years or below
Hong Kong ID card holder
Must have directed at least one public production per year in the last two years
Proficient in English and/or Cantonese#
Looking to develop a full time career in theatre directing in Hong Kong
#Cantonese stream candidates must have an acceptable standard of English and be able to comprehend modern plays in English and reference materials.

The successful candidate will be offered and be committed to:
A. Non-remunerated Training&
Phase 1: An English production* for the public with professional theatre practitioners and young actors to be staged in March 2016. The Emerging Director shall be in rehearsals and some performances as the assistant to the Director.
Phase 2: English school tour production for secondary schools* from March to May 2016. The Emerging Director shall be in rehearsals and some performances as the assistant to the Director.
Phase 3: A 5-week MA level directing internship at LAMDA in London from 6 June – 9 July 2016 under the guidance of the Associate Principal. This includes being in the MA Director’s tutorial forum plus some additional sessions one-on-one.
B. Remunerated Directing Opportunities: one 2-day workshop and one AFTEC production (Cantonese or English) in August 2016.
*For Cantonese and English language stream candidate.
